Family support and acceptance in children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder level one in Mexico

Abstract

ABSTRACT The present research describes the benefits that a child with Autistic Spectrum Disorder level one can present in the face of family acceptance and support. The research is based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V), which presents a classification subdivided into level one, level two, and level three. These levels are based on the potential and criteria that the person shows when exists a mental disorder. The children who go through the first degree of autism they usually present more self-sufficient behavior than on the other levels; however, they require support, the participation of the family members is fundamental, with his collaboration this will generate a better cognitive, affective, and motor development. The family environment requires to have information regarding what is happening, causes and effects of their new situation, so it is necessary to have medical information and psychological advice; along it, the family will be able to accept, overcome the situation, reduce family stress and anguish, as well as improve the child’s school integration.
